A mini review of electrocatalytic upgrading of carbohydrate biomass—System, path, and optimization

Upgrading carbohydrate biomass is a promising process to convert low-value feedstocks into high-value chemicals and fuels, which critical for the development of sustainable renewable society. Among various conversion technologies, electrocatalytic methods have gained increasing research interest due their mild reaction conditions easy accessibility. Moreover, utilize water as green abundant source hydrogen oxygen either reduction reactions on cathode or oxidation anode. In recent years, significant progress has been made in this field, with establishment systems aimed at enhancing carbohydrates. review, technologies results carbohydrates are summarized two parts: anodic (cellulose, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural [HMF], glucose, 2-furfural) cathodic (glucose, HMF, 2-furfural). Furthermore, future outlooks improving field also proposed.
